About Jerry Reuss

Card #60 carries the All-Star designation. Reuss went 18-11 with a 2.54 ERA in 1975 and finished 23rd in the MVP vote. He completed 15 starts, six of them shutouts, and National League manager Walter Alston named him the All-Star Game starter. He threw three scoreless innings.

Jerry Reuss was a 6-foot-5 left-handed starter from St. Louis who pitched 22 seasons, 1969 to 1990, and won 220 games with a 3.64 ERA for the Cardinals, Astros, Pirates, Dodgers, Reds, Angels, White Sox and Brewers. He was an All-Star in 1975 and 1980, and won the 1980 game by striking out all three batters he faced. His 1980 season with the Dodgers brought an 18-6 record, a 2.51 ERA, a major-league-high six shutouts and a June 27 no-hitter against the Giants that fell one throwing error short of a perfect game. He was second to Steve Carlton in the Cy Young vote. In 1981 he beat Houston in the deciding Division Series game and won Game 5 of the World Series over Ron Guidry as the Dodgers beat the Yankees in six games. He later worked as a broadcaster, and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame (2016) and St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame (2019) inducted him.
