About Ray Bare

On May 7 of that season he threw a one-hit shutout against the White Sox, the lone hit a fourth-inning single by Ralph Garr. On September 10 he won his last game, a rain-shortened 1-0 shutout at Fenway Park. He made five appearances in 1977, four of them starts, and posted a 12.56 ERA.
Ray Bare was a right-handed pitcher from Miami who threw in the majors from 1972 to 1977 for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers. Drafted four times before signing, he went to the Cardinals in February 1969. As a 1972 reliever he allowed one earned run in 14 games for a 0.54 ERA. In 1974 he went 12-4 with a league-best 2.34 ERA for Tulsa of the American Association, then joined the Cardinals. Detroit claimed him off waivers on April 4, 1975, and he became a regular starter for the next two seasons. He went 16-26 with a 4.79 ERA in 88 big-league games. The Tigers sent him down after May 3, 1977, and he finished the year at Evansville. He pitched for Rochester in 1978, his last professional season, and died of leukemia in Miami in 1994 at age 44.
