1977 Topps #93 Tom Poquette

About Tom Poquette
Poquette followed his 1976 rookie year with a .292 season, 100 hits in 106 games, platooning with Joe Zdeb. He made no errors in 185 chances in the outfield and made a running catch on Willie Horton's line drive to protect Jim Colborn's no-hitter on May 14. His 1977 Topps card, #93, bears the All-Star Rookie trophy for his place on the 1976 Topps rookie team.
Tom Poquette was a left-handed-hitting outfielder who played seven seasons, most of them with the Kansas City Royals, and appeared in the League Championship Series in 1976, 1977 and 1978. A three-sport star at Eau Claire Memorial High School in Wisconsin, he was a fourth-round pick, 80th overall, of the Royals in 1970 and turned down a football and baseball scholarship to Wisconsin to sign. Knee surgeries slowed his climb, and he debuted on September 1, 1973. He hit .268 in 452 games, with 10 home runs and 18 triples. He also played for Boston and Texas before finishing with Kansas City in 1982. A fractured cheekbone from a collision with the left-field wall on June 22, 1976, led the Royals to pad the outfield walls at Royals Stadium. He later coached and managed in the Royals system and entered the Eau Claire Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009. His nickname, Pokie, dated from high school.

Is 1977 Topps #93 a rookie card?
No. #93 carries the Topps All-Star Rookie Cup, which honors the previous season's rookie class, but Tom Poquette's first Topps card came earlier, so this is not his rookie card.
