The story on this card
Toronto's first major-league season opened on April 7, 1977, when 44,649 fans watched a snowy Exhibition Stadium debut against the White Sox, a 9-5 win with first baseman Doug Ault homering twice. Card #113 shows manager Roy Hartsfield with coaches Don Leppert, Bob Miller, Jackie Moore and Harry Warner, and the set shows both new expansion clubs, Toronto and Seattle, heavily airbrushed. The club sat atop the American League East after its first homestand, then slid to last place by May 25 and finished 54-107, 45 1/2 games behind the Yankees. Ron Fairly was the lone All-Star, and Bill Singer was the marquee pitcher. The Jays still drew 1,701,052 fans, an expansion-team record, and on September 15 collected a 9-0 forfeit when Orioles manager Earl Weaver pulled his club from the field.

Toronto was one of the two clubs that debuted in 1977, and both expansion team cards carry the manager and his coaches instead of the manager alone: #113 names Roy Hartsfield with Don Leppert, Bob Miller, Jackie Moore and Harry Warner. #597 Seattle Mariners is the other one; the remaining 24 team cards carry the manager only.
