1978 Topps #277 Bruce Boisclair

About Bruce Boisclair
The Mets opened 1978 with Boisclair platooning in right field alongside free-agent signee Elliott Maddox, and he hit a two-run homer in his first start. He batted .222 in April and returned to reserve duty, appearing in 107 games. He finished at .224 with four home runs and 15 RBI. His 1978 card is #277 with the Mets.
Bruce Boisclair was a left-handed-hitting outfielder who spent his entire major league career with the New York Mets, appearing in 410 games from 1974 to 1979 and batting .263 with 10 home runs. A tight end expected to attend Boston College on a football scholarship, he was instead drafted by the Mets in the 20th round in 1970 after starring in football, basketball and baseball at Killingly High School in Connecticut. He debuted as a pinch runner in the 23rd inning of a 25-inning game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Shea Stadium in September 1974. After a season at Triple-A Tidewater in 1975, he won the fourth outfielder and left-handed bat off the bench job in 1976 and hit .571 as a pinch hitter. A wrist injury cost him half of 1979, and the Mets released him in spring training of 1980. He signed with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan and hit eight home runs there, including the only two-homer game of his career. A 1981 comeback attempt with Toronto ended in spring training.
