About this card

The story on this card

The 1977 Cubs led the National League East by 8 1/2 games on June 28, at 47-22. Bobby Murcer finished with 27 home runs and 89 RBI, and Rick Reuschel won 20 games against 10 losses. Philadelphia cut the margin to two by the All-Star break, and Chicago went 20-40 after July 31 to end 81-81 in fourth place, 20 games behind the Phillies. Herman Franks, a former Cubs coach under Leo Durocher, was named manager after Durocher turned down the job. Wrigley Field drew 1,439,834. In the ninth inning of a 13-inning game against Cincinnati on July 28, Dave Rosello and Jose Cardenal alternated between shortstop and second base. Hall of Famer Bruce Sutter was on the roster. The Cubs team card is 1978 Topps #302, and Murcer, Reuschel, Franks and Ivan DeJesus have their own cards.
