Hall of Famers on the 1977 Cincinnati Reds roster: Sparky Anderson, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan and Tom Seaver.

About this card
This is one of the 26 team cards, one for every club. Team cards and manager cards are separate cards this year, and every club except the Milwaukee Brewers also has a manager card - George Bamberger was hired in late January 1978, too late to be included.
The story on this card
The Reds on card #526 entered 1977 as two-time defending World Series champions. Sparky Anderson's club went 88-74, finished second in the National League West and ended 10 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The roster included Hall of Famers Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan and Tom Seaver, with Anderson in the dugout, and Riverfront Stadium drew 2,519,670 for the year. Cincinnati scored 802 runs and allowed 725. After the season Oakland owner Charlie Finley tried to trade Vida Blue to the Reds for a lesser player and cash. Commissioner Bowie Kuhn vetoed the deal, saying that adding Blue to the Reds' already formidable pitching staff would make a mockery of the National League West race.
