1978 Topps #282 New York Yankees Team
Hall of Famers on the 1977 New York Yankees roster: Catfish Hunter and Reggie Jackson.

About this card
This is one of the 26 team cards, one for every club. Team cards and manager cards are separate cards this year, and every club except the Milwaukee Brewers also has a manager card - George Bamberger was hired in late January 1978, too late to be included.
The story on this card
The 1977 Yankees won 100 games and took the American League East by 2 1/2 games over Baltimore. They beat Kansas City in five games in the ALCS and the Los Angeles Dodgers in six in the World Series, the 21st title in franchise history and the first under George Steinbrenner. Reggie Jackson, signed to a five-year, $2.96 million contract on November 29, 1976, took number 44, Hank Aaron's old number. His first New York season was strained by feuds with manager Billy Martin, including a June 18 dugout confrontation at Fenway Park. Catfish Hunter, like Jackson a future Hall of Famer, went 9-9 with a 4.71 ERA in 22 starts. Yankee Stadium hosted the All-Star Game on July 19. Topps issued the club as team card #282 in 1978.
