1978 Topps #595 Sixto Lezcano

About Sixto Lezcano
Lezcano opened the 1978 season on April 7 with an Opening Day grand slam off Baltimore's Tim Stoddard, the first of three straight Brewers games with a slam. A second came on August 24 against Cleveland. He hit .292 with 15 home runs, was Milwaukee's player of the month in May, and received a contract extension through 1981. The Brewers won 93 games under George Bamberger. Topps #595 lists him with Milwaukee.
Sixto Lezcano was a right fielder from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, who played 12 major league seasons (1974-1985) and hit .271 with 148 home runs. The Brewers signed him at 16 in October 1970. He singled in his first at-bat on September 10, 1974, and drove in the winning run in the 10th inning against Baltimore, then was Milwaukee's regular right fielder from 1975 through 1980, known for a strong throwing arm. He is the only player to hit a grand slam on Opening Day twice. After the 1980 season he went to St. Louis in the seven-player deal for Rollie Fingers, Pete Vuckovich and Ted Simmons; after 1981 he went to San Diego with Garry Templeton for Ozzie Smith. He finished with the Phillies, reaching the 1983 World Series, and the Pirates in 1985, and later played in Japan for Yokohama.
