1978 Topps #336 Steve Busby

About Steve Busby
Busby sat out the entire 1977 season and returned to the Royals late in 1978, making five starts in seven games. He went 1-0 with a 7.59 ERA over 21 1/3 innings. His 1978 Topps card, #336, pictures him with the Kansas City Royals.
Steve Busby was a right-handed starter who spent his entire eight-year career, 1972 to 1980, with the Kansas City Royals. A USC pitcher who went 11-2 with a 1.92 ERA in 1971, he was the Royals' second-round pick that June. He threw the first no-hitter in club history in 1973 and a second in 1974, becoming the first pitcher to throw no-hitters in his first two full seasons, and was an All-Star in 1974 and 1975. He was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff in 1976, an injury that at the time ended a pitcher's career, and became the first baseball player to undergo rotator cuff surgery. He finished 70-54 with a 3.72 ERA and 659 strikeouts. He was among the first two players elected to the Royals Hall of Fame, entered the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 and later broadcast for the Texas Rangers.
