The story on this card

Minnesota went 73-89 in 1978 and finished fourth in the American League West, with Metropolitan Stadium drawing 787,878, the second-lowest total in the league. Rod Carew, the club's only All-Star, won his seventh batting title at .333 and hit a pair of triples in the All-Star Game at San Diego. Roy Smalley hit 19 home runs, Dan Ford drove in 82, and Mike Cubbage hit for the cycle on July 27. Mike Marshall, signed in May, posted 21 saves, and Dave Goltz won 15 games. Topps #41 pairs the Twins with manager Gene Mauch.

Gene Mauch played for six major league clubs before managing the Phillies, Expos, Twins and Angels over 26 seasons. His teams emphasized bunting, advancing runners, speed and defense, and he finished with 1,902 managerial wins.
