1986-87 Fleer #52 Frank Johnson

About Frank Johnson
A steady point guard out of Wake Forest, where he was a 1980-81 All-American, Franklin Lenard Johnson was drafted 11th overall by the Washington Bullets in the 1981 NBA Draft. He spent his first seven seasons in Washington (1981-1988) before stints with the Houston Rockets (1988-89) and the Phoenix Suns (1992-1994), playing ten NBA seasons in all and averaging 8.3 points and 4.2 assists per game. Johnson never made an All-Star or All-NBA team and did not win a title, but he carved out a reputation as a reliable reserve and late-game contributor. With the early-1990s Suns he earned the nickname "Fourth Quarter Frank" for his clutch play helping the club grind out close games. After retiring he moved into coaching, serving as a Suns assistant and then head coach of Phoenix from 2002 until being fired in December 2003. This is his rookie card, issued during his Bullets tenure.
