1986-87 Fleer #95 Dan Roundfield

About Dan Roundfield
Born Danny Thomas Roundfield, the 6'8" power forward starred at Central Michigan, where he was named 1975 MAC Player of the Year. Drafted in 1975 by the Cleveland Cavaliers, he instead signed with the ABA's Indiana Pacers and went on to play roughly 12 pro seasons for the Pacers (1975-78), Atlanta Hawks (1978-84), Detroit Pistons (1984-85) and Washington Bullets (1985-87), the club shown on this card. A punishing rebounder and elite defender nicknamed "Dr. Rounds," he peaked in Atlanta: a three-time All-Star (1980-82), an All-NBA Second Team selection in 1980, and a five-time All-Defensive honoree (First Team in 1980, 1982 and 1983; Second Team in 1981 and 1984), averaging roughly 15 points and 10 rebounds a game for his career. This 1986-87 issue captures him in his final NBA seasons with Washington. Roundfield died on August 6, 2012, at age 59, drowning off Aruba while helping his wife to safety.

About this card
The 1986-87 Fleer Dan Roundfield is card #95 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Dan Roundfield was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the Washington Bullets.
