1986-87 Fleer #27 Joe Dumars
Hall of Fame rookie. A Bad Boy Piston, two-time champion and the namesake of the NBA Finals MVP trophy.

About Joe Dumars
A smooth 6'3" guard out of McNeese State, Joe Dumars was drafted 18th overall by the Detroit Pistons in 1985 and spent his entire 14-season career (1985-1999) in Detroit. A six-time NBA All-Star (1990-93, 1995, 1997), he was named All-NBA three times and earned four All-Defensive First Team selections, and Michael Jordan called him one of the toughest defenders he ever faced. Dumars was the quiet backcourt anchor of the "Bad Boys" Pistons, winning back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990 and taking Finals MVP honors in 1989 after averaging 27.3 points in a sweep of the Lakers. Renowned for his class, he was the inaugural winner of the NBA Sportsmanship Award (1995-96), which was later renamed the Joe Dumars Trophy in his honor. He retired with 16,401 career points and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. This is his rookie card.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1986-87 Fleer Joe Dumars card?
It is card #27 of 132 in the 1986-87 Fleer Basketball set - Fleer's 'Premier' issue and the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps. It pictures the Detroit Pistons Joe Dumars, and is his recognized rookie card.
Is the 1986-87 Fleer Joe Dumars his rookie card?
Yes - the hobby treats 1986-87 Fleer as the Rookie Card for any player whose first nationally-distributed (pack-issued) card it is. Joe Dumars had no Topps card before the set, so this is his recognized RC. (Limited-distribution Star Company cards from 1983-86 are classed as Extended Rookie Cards.)
How do I spot a fake Joe Dumars 1986-87 Fleer card?
1986-87 Fleer is the most counterfeited basketball set. Genuine cards are crisp and dark with an intact micro-dot print pattern; fakes look fuzzy or flat. Check the Fleer 'Premier' logo (the arrow is a darker gold than the yellow box) and, on the back, the NBA Players Association basketball, whose seam lines are visible on a real card and filled solid on a fake. For high-value copies, buy professionally graded (PSA/BGS/SGC) and verify the cert.
Is the 1986-87 Fleer Joe Dumars valuable?
Value depends heavily on grade and centering. Use the links above to check current T206 Cards inventory and live eBay listings.
