About Vinnie Johnson
A 6'2" combo guard out of Baylor - by way of McLennan Community College - Vinnie Johnson was drafted 7th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1979 and traded to the Detroit Pistons in 1981, where he became one of the NBA's most feared instant-offense reserves. Over a 13-year career (1979-1992) with the Sonics, Pistons, and Spurs he averaged 12.0 points per game across 984 games, though he was never an All-Star. Celtics guard Danny Ainge dubbed him "The Microwave" for how quickly he could heat up and pour in points off the bench. A core member of Detroit's "Bad Boys," Johnson won back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990, and his 14-foot jumper with 0.7 seconds left clinched Game 5 of the 1990 Finals over Portland - a shot that earned him the second nickname "007." Detroit retired his No. 15 in 1994.
