About Steve Johnson
Born Clarence Stephen Johnson, this 6'10" center-forward starred at Oregon State, where he set an NCAA single-season field-goal-percentage record (.746) that stood until 2017 and was named a consensus first-team All-American and Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1981. The Kansas City Kings took him seventh overall in the 1981 NBA Draft, and he played roughly ten seasons (1981-1991) for the Kings, Bulls, Spurs, Trail Blazers, Timberwolves, SuperSonics and Warriors. An efficient interior scorer, Johnson led the entire NBA in field-goal percentage at .632 in 1985-86 while wearing this San Antonio uniform, and he earned his lone All-Star selection in 1988 as a Western Conference reserve, though injury kept him from playing. This card is famous for an uncorrected error: the photo actually shows Spurs teammate David Greenwood (note his #10) rather than Johnson, who wore #53.

About this card
The 1986-87 Fleer Steve Johnson is card #55 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Because of the multi-year gap, it is the recognized Rookie Card for Steve Johnson. He is pictured with the San Antonio Spurs.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1986-87 Fleer Steve Johnson card?
It is card #55 of 132 in the 1986-87 Fleer Basketball set - Fleer's 'Premier' issue and the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps. It pictures the San Antonio Spurs Steve Johnson, and is his recognized rookie card.
Is the 1986-87 Fleer Steve Johnson his rookie card?
Yes - the hobby treats 1986-87 Fleer as the Rookie Card for any player whose first nationally-distributed (pack-issued) card it is. Steve Johnson had no Topps card before the set, so this is his recognized RC. (Limited-distribution Star Company cards from 1983-86 are classed as Extended Rookie Cards.)
Is the Steve Johnson card an error card?
Uncorrected error: David Greenwood is pictured instead of Steve Johnson (the player wears Spurs #10, Greenwood's number; Steve Johnson wore #53).
Why is the Steve Johnson hard to find in high grade?
It is one of the set's condition-sensitive cards. The flush red/white/blue borders chip to reveal the white core at the slightest touch, and centering is tough - so high grades are far scarcer than the player's profile suggests.
Is the 1986-87 Fleer Steve Johnson valuable?
Value depends heavily on grade and centering. Use the links above to check current T206 Cards inventory and live eBay listings.
