About Dave Greenwood

A two-time consensus All-American at UCLA (1978, 1979), the 6'9" power forward/center David Greenwood was the second overall pick of the 1979 NBA Draft, taken by the Chicago Bulls. He earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in 1979-80, leading Chicago in rebounding, and spent six seasons with the Bulls before being traded to San Antonio in 1985 in the deal that sent future Hall of Famer George Gervin (card #36 in this set) to Chicago. Across a 12-year career (1979-1991) with the Bulls, Spurs, Nuggets, and Pistons, he averaged 10.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, and won an NBA championship as a reserve with the 1990 Detroit "Bad Boys" Pistons. Pictured here as a Spur, Greenwood is also the player mistakenly shown on this set's uncorrected Steve Johnson error card (#55). He died in June 2025 at age 68.

About this card

The 1986-87 Fleer Dave Greenwood is card #41 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Dave Greenwood was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the San Antonio Spurs.
