1986-87 Fleer #115 Kelly Tripucka

About Kelly Tripucka
A 6'6" small forward out of Notre Dame, Kelly Tripucka was drafted 12th overall by the Detroit Pistons in 1981 and played 11 professional seasons (1981-1992). He made an immediate impact, earning NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in 1982 and back-to-back All-Star selections in 1982 and 1984 as a smooth-scoring wing for the Pistons. Tripucka's finest year came in 1983-84, when he averaged 26.5 points per game; he closed his NBA career averaging 17.2 points across stints with Detroit, the Utah Jazz, and the expansion Charlotte Hornets, whom he joined for their inaugural 1988-89 season before finishing his playing days with Limoges in France. He came from football stock: he is the son of Frank Tripucka, a former Notre Dame and Denver Broncos quarterback. This 1986-87 Fleer card is considered Tripucka's rookie card in the hobby, issued in Fleer's landmark first modern basketball set.
