About John Bagley
A 6-foot point guard out of Boston College, John Edward "Bags" Bagley was named Big East Player of the Year in 1981 and drafted 12th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1982. This is his rookie card, issued during his Cleveland run (1982-1987), where he became the team's floor general and one of the NBA's premier passers: he finished 5th in the league in assists per game in 1984-85 (8.6) and 4th in 1985-86 (9.4). Over 11 seasons and 665 games he also played for the New Jersey Nets (1987-1989), the Boston Celtics (1989-1993), and briefly the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 8.7 points and 6.0 assists per game. Bagley was never an All-Star and won no titles, but he was a steady, pass-first guard; Boston College retired his No. 54 in 2017. His nickname "Bags" is a simple play on his surname.
