About Mark Aguirre
A 6'6" small forward out of DePaul, Mark Aguirre was a two-time consensus All-American and the 1980 college National Player of the Year before the Dallas Mavericks made him the No. 1 overall pick of the 1981 NBA Draft. He spent his first eight-plus seasons in Dallas as the young franchise's leading scorer, a relentless offensive weapon whose turnaround jumper carried him to three All-Star selections (1984, 1987, 1988). Aguirre's peak came in 1983-84, when he averaged 29.5 points per game, second in the NBA only to Adrian Dantley. In February 1989 the Mavericks traded him to the Detroit Pistons for Dantley; embracing a smaller role off the bench, Aguirre helped the "Bad Boys" win back-to-back NBA championships in 1989 and 1990. He closed a 13-year career (also with the Los Angeles Clippers) with 18,458 points and a 20.0 scoring average, and was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. This card is his official rookie in the set, issued in his final Mavericks seasons.
