1988-89 Fleer #48 Chris Mullin

About Chris Mullin
The sweetest left-handed stroke of his era, straight out of Brooklyn. Chris Mullin swept the 1985 Wooden Award and three straight Big East Player of the Year honors at St. John's before Golden State took him seventh overall in the 1985 draft. This 1988-89 Fleer card — not his rookie — landed just as he broke out: after conquering the alcoholism coach Don Nelson confronted him about in December 1987, Mullin poured in 26.5 points a game in 1988-89, the first of five straight 25-point seasons and five consecutive All-Star trips (1989-93). Alongside Tim Hardaway and Mitch Richmond he powered "Run TMC," the fan-contest nickname riffing on rap kings Run-D.M.C. Four All-NBA selections (first team, 1992), two Olympic golds including the '92 Dream Team, and 17,911 points across 16 seasons at shooting guard and small forward — Warriors (1985-97, 2000-01) and Pacers (1997-2000) — carried "Mully" into the Naismith Hall of Fame, Class of 2011.
