1988-89 Fleer #43 Dennis Rodman
Dennis Rodman's rookie card.

About Dennis Rodman
Dennis Rodman's rookie card. Fleer caught "The Worm" — the nickname his mother gave him for the way he wiggled playing pinball — just as Detroit's Bad Boys broke through. An overnight airport janitor turned three-time NAIA All-American at Southeastern Oklahoma State, Rodman lasted until the 27th pick of the 1986 draft, then made himself indispensable at forward: the 1988-89 season shown here brought the first of his seven All-Defensive First Team nods and the Pistons' first championship, repeated in 1990. Back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year awards (1990, 1991) came next, then a record seven straight rebounding titles from 1992-98 spanning Detroit, San Antonio, and Michael Jordan's Bulls, where he grabbed three more rings (1996-98). A two-time All-Star who closed out with the Lakers and Mavericks, Rodman averaged 13.1 rebounds over 14 seasons and entered the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011 — the same year Detroit retired his No. 10.
