Chicago Cubs · National League · 150-350 print series

The 1909–1911 T206 George Brown (“Chicago” pose) is part of the legendary “White Border” tobacco set — The Monster. This card depicts George Brown, a member of the historic Chicago Cubs (National League), and was printed in the 150-350 series, known with 4 tobacco-brand backs. Across PSA and SGC, roughly 762 examples have been graded, with only 8 in NM 7 or better — a reminder of how tough this issue is in high grade.

About George Brown

George Edward Browne (1876-1920) was a right fielder who reached the majors with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1901 and starred for John McGraw's New York Giants from 1902 to 1907. His finest year came in 1904, when he led the National League in runs scored with 99, a total so modest amid that pitching-dominated era that it stood as the lowest for any league leader until 1915. In 1905 he helped the Giants win the World Series, and his lone Series appearance that October is a footnote to baseball lore: earlier that season he had been replaced in a game by Archibald "Moonlight" Graham, later immortalized in Field of Dreams. Browne closed a well-traveled deadball career batting .273 with 614 runs and 190 stolen bases across seven clubs. His T206 card captures a fleeting 1909 stint with the Chicago Cubs before he was sold to Washington, and the card famously misspells his surname as "Brown."
