About Johnny Evers
Born 1881 in Troy, NY (d. 1947), Johnny Evers was a left-handed second baseman who debuted in 1902 and played 18 major-league seasons. He batted .270 with 1,659 hits, 12 home runs, and 324 stolen bases in 1,784 games. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. He was the middle man in the Cubs' famed 'Tinker to Evers to Chance' double-play combination immortalized in Franklin Pierce Adams's 1910 poem 'Baseball's Sad Lexicon.'
