About Jake Beckley
Born August 4, 1867 in Hannibal, Missouri (d. 1918), Jake Beckley was a left-handed-hitting, left-handed-throwing first baseman who batted .308 with 2,938 hits and 1,581 RBIs over a 20-year major-league career (1888-1907) with Pittsburgh, the New York Giants, Cincinnati, and St. Louis; he later served as player-manager for Kansas City in the American Association (1908-09) and was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. He retired holding the record for career putouts by a first baseman with 23,755, a mark that still stands today.
