About Bill Hallman
Bill Hallman (William Harry Hallman, 1876-1950) was a Philadelphia-born outfielder and career minor-leaguer who broke into professional ball in 1894 and played through 1914. The nephew of the well-known major-league second baseman of the same name, this Hallman reached the big leagues only briefly, appearing for the American League's Milwaukee Brewers in 1901 (his lone season as a regular, when he led AL outfielders in errors), the Chicago White Sox in 1903, and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1906-1907. He was a far better hitter in the minors: he won the American Association batting championship in 1906, batting .343 for the Louisville Colonels that year. In three seasons with the Kansas City Blues of the American Association (1908-1910) he hit .218, .264, and .279 — the club he is pictured with on his T206 card, part of the minor-league contingent that makes the White Border set so deep. He finished his major-league career a .235 hitter over parts of four seasons and died in his native Philadelphia in 1950.
