The story on this card
Connie Mack managed his 50th and last season with the Athletics in 1950, at 87, a North American professional sports record. The club wore uniforms trimmed in blue and gold for the Golden Jubilee of the man known as the Grand Old Man of Baseball, a Hall of Famer. The Athletics went 52-102 and finished eighth in the American League. They scored 670 runs and allowed 913, a gap of 243 that came to about 1.6 runs a game across 154 games. The staff posted a 5.49 ERA with 50 complete games, 3 shutouts and 18 saves, and the team hit 100 home runs. Shibe Park drew 309,805 for the season.
