1955 Topps All-American #10 Bill Dudley

About Bill Dudley
Bill Dudley arrived at Virginia in 1939 as a 152-pound recruit most colleges considered too small, and he left as the school's first All-American. Known ever after as Bullet Bill, the halfback led the nation in scoring and touchdowns in 1941 with 134 points and 18 touchdowns, and won the Maxwell Award as college football's outstanding player while earning consensus All-America honors. Pittsburgh took him first overall in the 1942 NFL draft, and he led the league in rushing as a rookie. After three wartime years flying with the Army Air Corps, Dudley returned to produce one of pro football's signature seasons: in 1946 he led the NFL in rushing, interceptions, and punt returns all at once and was voted the league's most valuable player. He played through 1953 with Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Washington, and later won four terms in the Virginia House of Delegates. Dudley entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 1956 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1966.
