About Bobby Dodd

Bobby Dodd quarterbacked Robert Neyland's Tennessee teams from 1928 to 1930, a play-caller remembered for always seeming to have the winning play in his pocket; the Volunteers went 27-1-2 in his three seasons, and Grantland Rice named him an All-American in 1930. Dodd carried that instinct to the sideline at Georgia Tech, serving as head coach from 1945 through 1966 and compiling a 165-64-8 record. His Yellow Jackets won SEC titles in 1951 and 1952, put together a 31-game unbeaten run, and capped a perfect 12-0 season in 1952 with a Sugar Bowl victory and a national championship. The College Football Hall of Fame inducted him twice, as a player in 1959 and as a coach in 1993, one of only four men so honored, and Georgia Tech has played its home games at Bobby Dodd Stadium since 1988.
