About Otto Graham

Otto Graham starred in Northwestern's backfield from 1941 to 1943, setting Big Ten passing marks with 89 completions in 1942 and a conference-record 2,132 career passing yards, while his 61 points in 1943 stood as a school record for 43 years. He earned first-team All-America honors in football in 1943 and All-America recognition in basketball as well, a rare double. After Navy service in World War II, Graham became the original quarterback of the Cleveland Browns and took them to the championship game in all ten of his seasons from 1946 to 1955, winning seven titles: four straight in the All-America Football Conference and NFL crowns in 1950, 1954, and 1955. Known as Automatic Otto, he entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 1956 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1965, later coaching the Coast Guard Academy and the Washington Redskins.
