1955 Topps All-American #90 Charley O'Rourke

About Charley O'Rourke
"Chuckin' Charlie" O'Rourke carried barely 155 pounds on his 5-foot-10 frame, yet the clever tailback out of Malden High became one of the greatest players Boston College has ever fielded. After a year under Gil Dobie he flourished for two seasons under Frank Leahy, quarterbacking the 1940 Eagles through a perfect 10-0 campaign that included a victory over Georgetown that Grantland Rice called "the greatest college football game I've ever seen." Named All-America that fall, O'Rourke then won the Sugar Bowl with a 24-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run, completing a come-from-behind 19-13 upset of powerful Tennessee; Boston College retired his No. 13. He threw for the Chicago Bears in 1942 and finished with the AAFC's Los Angeles Dons and Baltimore Colts through 1949, then spent eight seasons as head coach at Massachusetts and served as a Pop Warner commissioner. In 1972 he became the first Boston College player voted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
