About Bob Odell
Bob Odell was Pennsylvania's do-everything halfback of the World War II years, playing for the Quakers from 1941 through 1943. As a senior captain in 1943 he ran, passed, punted, caught passes, returned kicks, and starred on defense, landing on four major All-America teams, winning the Maxwell Award, and finishing second to Angelo Bertelli in the Heisman Trophy vote. Against Army that fall he hauled in a pass and outran Glenn Davis for Penn's final touchdown. Navy service and a knee injury ended his playing days, so he turned to coaching, assisting at Yale, Temple, Wisconsin, and Penn before head-coaching stops at Bucknell, at his alma mater Penn from 1965 to 1970, and at Williams, where he stayed until 1986. The College Football Hall of Fame inducted him in 1992.
