1955 Topps All-American #96 Bill Hollenback
About Bill Hollenback
Bill Hollenback bookended his Pennsylvania career with national champions, breaking in as an end on the unbeaten 1904 Quakers and captaining the unbeaten 1908 title team from the backfield. A punishing 6-foot-2 runner, he earned consensus All-America honors in 1906 and 1908, and his toughness became legend: he once played nearly a full game before discovering afterward that he had a fractured leg and two dislocated shoulders. Hollenback then made his biggest mark coaching Penn State, where his 1911 and 1912 teams both went unbeaten, and he also led Missouri and Syracuse on the way to a 46-19-8 career record. Away from football he ran Pennsylvania coal companies and served on Philadelphia's City Council. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame with its first class in 1951.
