About Don Hutson

Don Hutson, the "Alabama Antelope," turned the forward pass into a weapon. An end for the Crimson Tide from 1932 through 1934, he earned consensus All-America honors on Alabama's unbeaten 1934 national championship team, then torched Stanford in the 1935 Rose Bowl with six catches for 165 yards and touchdowns of 54 and 59 yards in a 29-13 victory. Joining the Green Bay Packers in 1935, he scored on an 83-yard touchdown with his first pro catch and spent eleven seasons inventing modern route-running, retiring in 1945 with 488 receptions for 7,991 yards and 99 touchdowns when no contemporary came close. He won back-to-back MVP awards in 1941 and 1942 and helped Green Bay to three NFL championships. Hutson entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a charter member in 1963.
