About George Savitsky

George Savitsky owns one of the rarest achievements in college football: four first-team All-America seasons. A two-way tackle at Pennsylvania from 1944 through 1947, he made first-team All-America as a freshman and repeated every year after, earning consensus honors in 1945, and no other player of the twentieth century matched the four-year run. He also appeared in the Shrine East-West Game three times, a distinction all his own, and was named to the all-time Shrine team. Drafted by Philadelphia, Savitsky won NFL championship rings with the Eagles in both 1948 and 1949, then walked away from the pro game for dentistry, building a long oral-surgery practice in southern New Jersey that continued until 1990. The College Football Hall of Fame inducted him in 1991.
