About Eddie Tryon

Eddie Tryon gave Colgate one of the most electric backfields of the early 1920s, starring at halfback from 1922 through 1925. A slippery open-field runner, he ripped off touchdown runs of 65 and 25 yards in a famous 23-23 tie with mighty Ohio State in 1923. As captain in 1925 he carried Colgate through an unbeaten 7-0-2 season, scored 111 points on fifteen touchdowns and twenty-one extra points, delivered the only touchdown in a 7-0 upset of Princeton, and earned first-team All-America honors after a second-team selection two years earlier. Coach Dick Harlow called him the hardest-working athlete he ever coached. Tryon then turned professional with the football New York Yankees, leading the first American Football League in scoring with 72 points in 1926 and playing on in the NFL in 1927. The College Football Hall of Fame inducted him in 1963.
