1955 Topps All-American #49 Don Zimmerman

About Don Zimmerman
Don Zimmerman, the halfback known as the Flying Dutchman, was the engine of Tulane's golden era. From 1929 through 1932 he ran, passed and kicked for Green Wave teams that captured three straight Southern Conference championships and closed the 1931 season in the Rose Bowl, where his touchdown pass fueled a comeback bid in a 21-12 loss to Southern California. A first-team All-American in 1931, Zimmerman earned consensus All-America honors in 1932, taking first-team votes from the Associated Press and United Press among others, and he left Tulane holding school records for total offense, 4,657 yards, and interceptions that stood for roughly four decades. He was inducted into the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame and, in 1975, a year after his death, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
