1955 Topps All-American #37 Jim Thorpe
Won Olympic gold in the pentathlon and the decathlon at Stockholm in 1912.

About Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe of the Sac and Fox Nation remains the measuring stick for athletic greatness. At the Carlisle Indian School under Pop Warner, he was a consensus All-American halfback in 1911 and 1912, scoring 53 touchdowns and 421 points in 44 games; in 1912 alone he led the nation with 29 touchdowns and 224 points. Against Army that fall, he had a 92-yard touchdown wiped out by a penalty and answered with a 97-yard scoring run on the next snap. That same year he won Olympic gold in both the pentathlon and decathlon at Stockholm, medals stripped in 1913 over prior semi-pro baseball pay and restored posthumously. Thorpe later led the Canton Bulldogs to three unofficial world championships and in 1920 was named the first president of the league that became the NFL. Voted the greatest athlete of the half-century by the Associated Press in 1950, he entered the College Football Hall of Fame's charter class in 1951 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame's charter class in 1963.
