1955 Topps All-American #28 Mel Hein
Rookie card

About Mel Hein
Mel Hein was the center of Washington State's finest early era, a 1930 All-American who anchored a Cougars team that went unbeaten through the regular season, won the Pacific Coast Conference, and reached the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day 1931. The Football Writers Association later named him the center on its all-time team for the game's first fifty modern years. With the New York Giants from 1931 to 1945, 'Old Indestructible' played both ways for fifteen seasons and 172 consecutive games, made first-team All-NFL eight straight years, appeared in seven championship games, won titles in 1934 and 1938, and took the 1938 MVP award — still the only offensive lineman ever so honored. He later supervised officials for the AFL and AFC. Hein was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954 and was a charter member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.
