About Bob Trowbridge
Trowbridge worked mainly out of the Milwaukee bullpen in 1958, going 1-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 27 games and striking out 31 in 55 innings. One standout outing came August 3, when he threw seven innings of no-hit relief in a 4-3 win over San Francisco. The Braves won the pennant again. His Topps card, #252 in the third series, shows him with Milwaukee and is his rookie card.
Right-hander Bob Trowbridge came out of Hudson, New York, and signed with the Boston Braves in 1950, winning 16 games at Eau Claire in his first season. Three years in the Air Force at Nellis Air Force Base followed, and he did not return to organized ball until 1954. After a 13-8 year at Toledo in 1955 he made the Milwaukee Braves in 1956 and posted a 2.66 ERA as a rookie. In 1957 he won seven games, threw a three-hit shutout against the Cubs on September 2 with nine strikeouts, and pitched an inning in relief in the World Series as Milwaukee beat the Yankees. Sold to Kansas City after 1959, he pitched his last major-league game in July 1960, finishing 13-13 with a 3.95 ERA. He died in Hudson in 1980 at 49 and was named to the inaugural class of the Capital District Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011.
