About the 1958 Chicago White Sox
Nicknamed the 'Go-Go Sox' for their speed-and-defense style, the Chicago White Sox finished second in the American League in 1957 at 90-64, behind only the Yankees. Their middle-infield duo defined the team: shortstop Luis Aparicio, the 1956 AL Rookie of the Year who led the league in stolen bases for a record nine consecutive seasons beginning with that rookie year, and second baseman Nellie Fox, a contact-hitting spark plug who would be named AL MVP in 1959 when Chicago won the pennant. Both are Hall of Famers. The reverse of card #256 carries a series checklist, part of the 1958 set's new practice of printing checklists on team-card backs.
