About Ron H. Jackson

Ron H. Jackson's 1958 Topps #26 shows him with the Chicago White Sox, in the first series of the 494-card set. He had come up on a 1954 bonus contract and spent most of 1956 and 1957 in the minors, hitting .304 for Vancouver in 1956. The card's season was his busiest in the majors: he stayed on the White Sox roster all year, appeared in 61 games, started 35 at first base, and hit .233 with seven home runs.

Ron Jackson was a 6-foot-7 right-handed first baseman from Kalamazoo, Michigan, and a Western Michigan University alumnus. He signed with the Chicago White Sox in June 1954 as an amateur free agent on a bonus contract that required him to stay on the major league roster for two full seasons. He played 80 games in those two years and batted .214. Sent to the minors in 1956, he hit .304 for Vancouver and in 1957 was named the American Association's All-Star first baseman. He got only brief White Sox trials until 1958, his busiest big league year. In 1959 he led the American Association with 30 home runs and 99 RBI, which drew Boston's interest. The Red Sox used him in ten early games in 1960 before trading him to the Braves for Ray Boone, and he never returned to the majors. In seven seasons he hit .245 with 17 home runs in 196 games. He later ran his own insurance company in Kalamazoo, where he died in 2008.
