About the League Presidents

This executive card honors the two men who ran Major League Baseball's leagues: American League president Will Harridge and National League president Warren Giles. Harridge, an AL front-office fixture since 1911, served as league president for 28 years beginning in 1931 and was instrumental in launching baseball's first All-Star Game in 1933; he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1972. Giles was general manager of the Cincinnati Reds from 1937 to 1951 - building a 1940 World Series winner - before becoming NL president in 1951, a post he held until 1969, overseeing the Dodgers' and Giants' 1958 move to California and expansion to twelve teams. Giles entered the Hall of Fame in 1979. Both are enshrined at Cooperstown.
