About Bob Allison
Bob Allison made his major-league debut for the Washington Senators on September 16, 1958, then delivered one of the most unexpected rookie seasons of the era in 1959 — the season on his rookie-era Topps card — despite hitting only 28 home runs across four minor-league seasons beforehand. He batted .261 with 30 homers and 85 RBIs, led the American League with 9 triples, was named to the All-Star team after clubbing 27 homers by the end of July, and capped the year by winning the American League Rookie of the Year award. Allison went on to a 13-year career, mostly with the Senators/Minnesota Twins franchise, making three All-Star teams and helping the Twins to the 1965 pennant. He later became a prominent advocate for ataxia research after being diagnosed with the disease.

Topps issued a partial parallel of the set for the Venezuelan market, printed on thinner card stock and credited "Impreso en Venezuela por Benco C.A." on the back. Hobby checklists most often list the run as cards 1-196, though sources disagree and the exact range has never been definitively documented. Venezuelan cards are far scarcer than their U.S. counterparts and usually surface with heavy wear; collectors treat them as a separate parallel, not part of the standard 572-card set.
