1959 Topps #387 Don Drysdale

About Don Drysdale
Don Drysdale was a hard-throwing, hard-nosed right-hander who debuted with the Dodgers in 1956 and became one of the most feared pitchers of his era, unafraid to throw inside to keep hitters off balance. He helped Los Angeles to three World Series titles (1959, 1963, 1965) and won the 1962 NL Cy Young Award (then given to only one pitcher in all of baseball) after a 25-win season. In 1968 he set a still-recognized record with six consecutive shutouts and 58⅔ consecutive scoreless innings. Drysdale finished his career with 209 wins, 2,486 strikeouts, 49 shutouts, and a 2.95 ERA, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984, the same year the Dodgers retired his No. 53. This 1959 Topps card comes just before his Cy Young-winning peak and the Dodgers' first Los Angeles championship season.
