1959 Topps #352 Robin Roberts

About Robin Roberts
Robin Roberts anchored the Philadelphia Phillies' pitching staff for over a decade, headlining the 1950 "Whiz Kids" team that won the franchise's first pennant since 1915. A workhorse right-hander, he reeled off six consecutive 20-win seasons from 1950-1955, including a league-best 28 wins in 1952, and led the National League in innings pitched every year from 1951-1955 and in complete games from 1952-1956. Roberts made seven consecutive All-Star teams (1950-1956), starting five of those games, and finished his 19-year career with 286 wins and 3,931 innings pitched across stints with the Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, and Chicago Cubs. Renowned for his precise control and durability, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976. His 1959 Topps card comes from his final full seasons anchoring the Phillies' rotation before his 1961 trade to Baltimore extended his career into the 1960s.
