1962 Topps #426 Bob Farley

About Bob Farley
Farley's only card in Topps' nine 1961-69 sets is also his recognized rookie card: #426, a fifth-series entry. It pictures him with the White Sox, who had landed him from San Francisco in the November 30, 1961 package that sent Billy Pierce and Don Larsen to the Giants. Farley hit .189 in 35 games for Chicago before a June 25 trade shipped him to Detroit for veteran outfielder Charlie Maxwell, and he closed the season, and his big-league career, at .160 in 36 games for the Tigers, one of his two career home runs coming in Detroit flannels.
Robert Jacob Farley, born November 15, 1937, in Watsontown, Pennsylvania, was a left-handed-hitting, left-handed-throwing first baseman and outfielder who stood 6-foot-2 and weighed 200 pounds. Signed by the Giants as an amateur free agent in 1957, he debuted in San Francisco on April 15, 1961, went back to Triple-A Tacoma for the best year of his career, .307 with 20 home runs and 71 RBI, and returned after the September call-ups, once hitting cleanup behind Willie Mays. In 13 games for the Giants he managed two singles in 20 at-bats. On November 30, 1961, San Francisco packaged him with Eddie Fisher, Dom Zanni and a player to be named later to the Chicago White Sox for Billy Pierce and Don Larsen. Farley spent all of 1962 in the American League, batting .189 for Chicago before a June 25 trade sent him to the Detroit Tigers for outfielder Charlie Maxwell, then hitting .160 the rest of the way. He finished with 84 games, a .163 average, two home runs and nine RBI, and played three more seasons in the minors before retiring after 1965.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
