1962 Topps #548 Bobby Del Greco

About Bobby Del Greco
Kansas City gave Del Greco a full season's work in 1962, mostly in center field, and he answered with the best year of his career at the plate: personal highs in games (132), hits (86), runs (61) and RBIs (38), a .254 average with nine home runs, and a .370 on-base percentage. He was hit by a pitch 13 times, tying Detroit's Norm Cash for the American League lead in roughly two-thirds as many plate appearances. He started fast, leading the league with nine doubles while batting .304 through April 24. His 1962 Topps card, number 548, is a high number from the seventh series.
Robert George "Bobby" Del Greco, born April 7, 1933, in Pittsburgh's Hill District, was an outstanding defensive center fielder who played nine major league seasons for six teams between 1952 and 1965. The youngest of ten children, he quit high school after his father died in 1947 and played semipro ball to support his mother; former Pirates third baseman Pie Traynor signed him to a Pittsburgh contract in 1950, and he reached the majors with his hometown club at 19. He went on to play for the Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and Kansas City Athletics, finishing with a .229 batting average, 42 home runs and 169 RBIs in 731 games. His instincts and range made him a prize everywhere he went - International League managers repeatedly voted him the league's best defensive outfielder with the best throwing arm during his Triple-A stops - but the bat never caught up, and he shuttled between the majors and the minors for most of his career. His glove helped decide the tight 1956 National League pennant race while he was with St. Louis. He drove a delivery truck for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette into the 1990s, died October 13, 2019, and was inducted posthumously into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1962 Topps #548 card?
It is card #548 of the 600-card 1962 Topps Baseball set, picturing Bobby Del Greco of the Kansas City Athletics.
Why is #548 harder to find?
It is a high number card (cards 523-598) from the seventh print series, distributed last and in the smallest quantity - the toughest cards in the set and home to all 42 short prints and the Rookie Parade.
How many cards are in the 1962 Topps Baseball set?
600 cards, tracked as 708 collectible states. The numbers run from 1 to 598 with no gaps, but three different cards were printed #139 - two Hal Reniff poses, catalogued 139a and 139b, and the Babe Hits 60 Babe Ruth Special, 139c - so 598 numbers make 600 cards; 93 cards carry catalogued print variations, the series-2 green tints among them, that the master set counts separately.
