1962 Topps #500 Duke Snider

About Duke Snider
Snider holds the round number #500 in the sixth series, listed with the Los Angeles Dodgers - again a regular card. The 1961 season it reports was his best part-time year: .296 with 16 home runs and 56 RBI in 85 games, his highest average since he hit .308 for the 1959 champions. He turned 35 that September, and 1962 became his sixteenth and last Dodgers season.
Edwin Donald Snider was called Duke from boyhood, after his father watched him strut about like royalty, and Brooklyn turned that into the Duke of Flatbush. He debuted for the Dodgers in April 1947, two days after Jackie Robinson, and by 1949 owned center field in a lineup that also carried Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, Roy Campanella and Gil Hodges. New York spent a decade arguing over Snider, Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle. His answer was five straight 40-homer seasons from 1953 through 1957, more home runs and more RBI than any other player hit or drove in during the 1950s, the National League RBI title in 1955, the home run crown in 1956, and eight All-Star selections. He was MVP runner-up in 1955, the year Brooklyn beat the Yankees for its only World Series title, and he remains the only man to hit four home runs in two different World Series. A second ring came with Los Angeles in 1959. He finished at .295 with 2,116 hits, 1,259 runs, 407 home runs and 1,333 RBI, and hit 19 home runs off Robin Roberts, more than any batter has taken off one pitcher. The Dodgers retired his number 4 in 1980, the year Cooperstown called.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
