The story on this card
Card 61 in the 1962 Topps set is the St. Louis Cardinals team card, first series, and it reports on 1961. The Cardinals went 80-74, fifth in the National League, thirteen games behind pennant-winning Cincinnati. Solly Hemus was fired on July 6 at 33-41; Johnny Keane took over and went 47-33. Three future Hall of Famers were on that roster: right-hander Bob Gibson, a full-time starter from that same July, left fielder Stan Musial at .288 with 15 homers, and Red Schoendienst, signed as a free agent in March for a second St. Louis tour and good for .300 in 72 games. Ken Boyer hit .329 and won a Gold Glove at third, first baseman Bill White another. Busch Stadium I hosted the last National League season before the 162-game schedule arrived.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
